BARCO is a community Interest Company formed to improve the lives and experiences of Black people living, working, studying and visiting Brighton and Hove.
BARCO was established in the summer of 2020 following the uprisings and worldwide acknowledgement of the racism Black people face in our societies.
We believe in order to address anti Black racism, categorisation such as ‘BAME’ and ‘BME’ must be abolished.
BARCO is unapologetically Black, and we currently define ‘Black’ as individuals who are Black African, Black Caribbean, those who identify as belonging to the Black African diaspora, or people of Black mixed-race heritage.
Our aim is to improve the lives and experiences of Black people living, working, studying and visiting Brighton and Hove through the celebration of being Black, Black culture and Black led events for the community.
We are moving to St Anns Well Gardens! This year we anticipate 10,000 visitors.
27th July 10am - 7pm

We work directly with the Black community in Brighton and the surrounding areas. Without the support of our community and volunteers BARCO and the events we curate wouldn't exist. We always want to hear from people from any walk of life, ethnicity and background that want to help support the work we do.
The key areas in which we seek support are funding opportunities, administration, event volunteers, legal, financial, education, health and employment.
If you are interested in joining the BARCO Community as a volunteer please get in touch
We are made up of volunteers and we rely on the support of partners and the wider community to help us to achieve our mission.
BARCO was created by Black people for Black people in Brighton & Hove to tackle anti-Black racism and create a collective approach to change.
We promise to work alongside the Black community in Brighton & Hove to improve the experiences of Black people living, working, studying and visiting the city.
We are always willing to see if we can help or advise - you don't ask, you don't get!
We are made up of volunteers only and meet fortnightly. We will get back to you as soon as we possibly can.
